Hi all,
The name is Josh. In terms of my knowledge of fantasy books, well it's quite thin actually. I'm new to this whole fantasy book stuff really, sure I've read all the big ones Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Narnia. I even tried to tackle Rober Jordan's Wheel of Time and I suppose its more historical than fantasy (maybe fantastical) but I have also enjoyed the sprawling caveman worlds of Earth's Children (and for anyone who knows them the ridiculous amounts of gratuitous sex within). I suppose 1984 might be considered Scifi too. But really, outside these titles all the well known stuff I just didn't know where to turn. I like writing fantasy and yet I was convinced every time I headed into the fantasy section that I would hate everything in it.
That's another thing about me. I hate reading series or being tied into a series before I even pick up the book. I see Book 3 of some such saga or Volume IV on the spine of a book more likely than not I'll put it back down. ANother turn off, those back covers that mention about three different societies and kingdoms and random alien names such as Tomlin or Ryko..what's his name. The point is everytime I entered a book store the things I thought I wanted to read alienated me without fail.
So I guess I have a unique perspective, but I have since started to read fantasy. In fact I've read a lot I love already recently and its all thanks to people on the world wide web that I know about it. So now I'd like to return the favour. My style is to rant waffle and describe the emotional tidal waves books bring, I hope you can bare with me! I'm looking forward to intriducing you to some really cool books the way I have started to discover them!
